We are in Chiapas now! Mexico has been Fantastic to say the least, but here is a a PSA:
We we’re heading to Guatemala and hit a small Village called, San Gregorio, Chiapas on highway MEX190. When we arrived the entire village was out and had the highway completely blocked. We talked to a female that spoke english and able to get past and to our next camping location (Cristobal Colon). Very beautiful camping area and were stayed there for three days.
We then left Cristobal Colon and back to Mex190, so we could head to the border crossing at La Mesilla.
While at the border one of our group couldn’t get there rig in to Guatemala so we stayed with them so they were not alone.
We drove back to San Gregorio and tried to pass back through the rode block but they refused, which force us to go the only other route available, which took us farther south through the Chiapas Highlands, which is controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel and several others. The next 24 hour was interesting at best!
In closing “STAY AWAY FROM THIS SOUTHERN PORTION OF CHIAPAS MEXICO”.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE LA MESILLA BORDER CROSSING!!!!
