Hey all, heading to Chile/Argentina for a few weeks next winter. Rough plan is to rent a 4x4(Landcruiser or similar) in Santiago head south along the coast, through the Patagonia region, into Tierra Del Fuego to Ushuaia, and head back up north through Argentina, back to Santiago(possibly up to Atacama if time allows).

Wondering if anyone here has experience in that area and would be able to offers some pointers.

You've picked the prime spots to see down there but thats a pretty ambitious trip for a few weeks, my suggestion is maybe shorten your trip distance and spend more time in fewer places. Another suggestion is from San Carlos de Bariloche (beautiful place) head to Puerto Montt and take the ferry down to lower Chile and Ushuaia and then head back up ruta 40 and see all the places on the west side of Chile. Ruta 3 which runs up the east side of Argentina is long and empty and at certain times of the year the winds blow a hooley. There are a few towns along there and a penguin colony at Punta Tombo to see but that's about it. The interesting part of the eastern side of Argentina starts at Bahia Blanca and north to Buenos Aires (which was my favourite city on my trip). Anyway have a great trip that's an excellent part of the world!

So, I stuck with a pretty ambitious itinerary for this trip, even more so because my wife booked a multi-day hike in the Cerro Castillo range, in Chile, with some friends. 3 weeks, and just over 10,000 km. Our only mistake was bringing a few other friends from Canada, found out on day 2 that 2 of them get motion sickness.... Flew into Santiago and rented a 4 Runner, headed east towards Mendoza.20181214_125103.jpg
Up and over....
