No doubt discussed in various threads, but thought I'd try and bring one together here in Rig Q&A.

What snow chains does everyone use?

Here in the UK they're a bit of a rarity, especially for larger than standard car tyres (265 or 275 70, 75 or 80 x 16 on my rigs - which isn't big by 4x4 standards).

We don't generally get enough snow to make them a commodity worth stocking for many of the 4x4 equipment suppliers, and those that do seem to think they are free to charge ridiculous prices for them.
Don't get me wrong, good quality steel chains won't be cheap, but not something you need to rob a bank for.

I don‘t know the brand of my chains. they where sitting in the trunk when i bought the car. for driving snowy forest-roads in the blackforest or the alps, i‘m glad of knowing that i could take them out and use them if i need to.
As snowchains are wearing down pretty fast when you drive through rough terrain, i would go for a cheaper model, cause the more expensive chains often do have the same chain-thickness but just a more comfortable locking system
