Snorkel placement

I am looking to add a snorkel to my ford ranger to keep some more dust out of my filter and am going back and forth between doing a standard snorkel up the A-pillar and doing a hidden one up under my cowl next to the heater intake. The two reasons for wanting to do the hidden snorkel are that I like keeping the trucks appearance as stock as possible, and I would rather not cut a hole in my fender.

My question is, how well do you think placing a snorkel in the cowl will work for keeping dust out compared to a standard A-pillar snorkel?

How much dust to you see in that area after a dusty drive? I imagine it would help a bit, but it's really hard to determine how much. Is fording a concern?

It can get really dusty. I'm not worried about fording.

The higher you place it the cleaner and cooler the air will be.
