The TRD Cai is basically the airbox without the resinator. It is hooked directly to the snorkel so the work in conjunction with each other.

Snorkel would be the best of both worlds I would think you are A. getting your "cold air" by moving the intake to the outside of the vehicle and B. like most everyone else has stated you give you self a little extra insurance and protection by raising the intake to a higher level and having a sealed system to keep water and other muck out.

There are alot of vehicle types that put that breather right in the dang wheel well. The cold air intake is great. That open air box Your right. That clean cool air from a snorkel. Yeah it might have a longer travel but your not gonna choke it down that much. Still a big ol round tube. I had a old 91 s10 blazer back in highschool that id flip that air filter up side down so it would breath better. Sounded cool as heck! A 350 with two cylinders cut off. Sucker ran good but lived on a dirt road and it didnt like the dust.
