Ok so here is a question for you smaller frame pickups out there!! Disclaimer- I am a ram 1500 guy so I am asking this because I dont see to many of them out there on the overland stage

Nissan Frontier——
Is it because the parts arent out there or is it just not a very good sled? You see xtierras and pathfinders out there but not as many 1/4 lber

The Toyota and the Colorado, gmc. You see them alot. I guess you can lump a Ranger into it too you see them. Was wondering what the 1/4 lber crowd had to say

I have a first gen 1979 Toyota pickup and it’s probably the smallest of the bunch. The reason I love mine so much is it is just as narrow if not a little narrower than a Jeep and It will go anywhere I want it to. Lockers, lift, winch and some tires are all the mods I will ever need..... but that’s not stopping me from going full bananas.

I think the number one reason most of us pick the smaller and midsize vehicles is because they have been in and around the off road scene since their conception and there are so many vendors that make and tailor all of the cool gear specifically for them. Plus a lot of mods for the smaller vehicles aren’t as expensive. IMG_4902.JPGIMG_4903.JPG

The modern trucks pretty much all look the same. But that’s not what was asked. My truck gets into some tight places and narrow trails that a full size would never fit on. And I have the bed set up for sleeping in, which you cannot do in a Jeep. I love the visibility over the hood of my truck, I have driven new Tacoma’s and the hood seems huge, especially the sport models with the hood scoop thing. Repairs are much easier as well, these old trucks are pretty simple. Parts availability can be an issue, but nothing that can’t be overcome.

Nice. I like the old school camper. I’m actually making an oil canvas cover for my bed I currently use a bed tent. And some foam padding for a little give

The newer "mid-size" trucks are larger than the early ones, most are crew cab short box. I know I can take many trails that friends in full size can't. My Colorado is the first mid size I've owned and I love it, never go back to a full size.

Yep colorados are very capable espesially duramax ones with the torque to actually offroad, rangers were pretty popular offroad like 15 to 20 yrs ago then everyone started turning em into trophy trucks because of the long travel suspension and then score races blew up in popularity

I've got a Tacoma and really like it! I think the new ones fit in the mid size category. It all depends on what you use it for! I do mostly remote camping, not a ton of rock crawling, so I likey double cab long bed (6ft..haha but longer than the 5) so I can sleep in the back diagonal. Others like the 5ft for shorter overall vehicle length.

Here in FL, a lot of the trails are pretty narrow. Not that my 3rd gen 2002 4Runner is a small vehicle, but at 6" narrower than my wife's 5th gen 2016, I am often surprised how much more nimbke it is getting between trees and big, scratchy branches.

The dakota is a cool pickup! You still see them alot actually. Yeah the smaller ones are getting close to the stance of a bigger pickup. Those chebbys are pretty wide!

The 1500 has a wheel base of 156" vs 128" for the Colorado, overall length of 241" vs 212" for the rado.

Well it was a standard cab short bed 2X 1500 truck net to the Colorado w/ quad cab long bed with 4x4 stickers it look as a funny comparison at the time.

That would. The Colorado is certainly larger than the S10's. I was working at a GM dealer when those came out, tiny trucks. I still see some nice ones around.

I have the Frontier Pro 4X and I think it’s a pretty capable truck. It comes with rear locker, boxed frame, strong rack and larger then most 4.0 V6. Very easy to find these used with low miles at a really great price in comparison to Toyota or Chevy/GMC. There’s plenty of after market parts and video/info on them. IMG_8329.JPG
