Has anyone tried to put a roof-top tent on top of a pop-up truck camper? I have a fairly large family and I like the idea of a truck camper instead of a trailer however I need more sleeping capacity. I'm curious if the pop-up mechanism is strong enough to support the weight of the tent and people or if it would have to be modified. I have to imagine one way or another there would be a way to beef up the lift system and support structure of the roof of the pop up truck camper.

For starters, what brand/model pop top camper are you asking about?

I have a Hawk, in reality I can't see the roof holding a rtt with people in it at all.

And from the FWC website:
"When evenly distributed (think snow distributed across roof) the roof will hold up to 1,000lbs. When carrying luggage, coolers, kayaks, canoes, etc. on the roof we recommend keeping the total weight about 100lbs. "
