Road Closures Cherokee National Forest

Due to flooding and washouts from last weeks storms, Citico Rd beyond Jake Best CG toward Indian Boundary CG is closed for 2-3 weeks for repair. Also, Cherohala Skyway out of Tellico Plains,TN is also closed with no confirmed date for completion of repairs. Check the forest service website for detour information.

Temporary Cherohala Skyway repairs have begun - WDEF

Officials report that temporary repairs are underway now on the Cherohala Skyway. The popular road through the mountains was shutdown by the Tellico Plains flooding.

Thanks for the FYI. Any info on River Rd?

I've not heard any update on River Rd. other than the demolition of the bridge at Bald River Falls has been postponed for a couple of weeks until the road can be repaired for the bridge crew. Of course River Rd will be closed for approx 16 months while the new bridge is being built. I've not heard if River Rd will be open beyond the ranger station during this time. Detours to River Rd above the falls will be WIldcat Rd ( across from the ranger station) / Bald River Rd and North River Rd off the Cherohala Skyway. The forest service is advising high clearance vehicles for both detours due to flooding damage. You can access the Cherohala Skyway by using Rafter Rd from Tellico Plains which goes to Indian Boundary CG at the Cherohala. Also, the CG is closed until 9/20. Hope this helps.
