• Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

Hey everyone,
Sorry I've been quiet so far this month. With work, the farm, appointments, kids, and now just getting over a bout of flu, it's been hectic to say the least. Anyway, I wanted to let you know we have been looking into the next trip. Many have expressed a weekend event to either Davey Crockett NF or Sam Houston NF. Both seem to be great destinations, with SHNF having the better selection of trails. The only issue I see is neither seems to have any good locations for a large group campsite outside of the typical RV sites. Even then, the sites have a max occupancy of 8 people/2 vehicles. Many are also first-come-first-serve, so guaranteeing we all get sites close together may be slim. There is Huntsville State Park literally next door to SHNF with some good sites and easy access to the NF. Again, the 8 people/2 vehicle rule applies. Also, almost all the sites for weekends are already booked for the next couple months. Still looking as they have 165 sites available, so maybe something will come up.

A couple suggestions are: going during the week instead (issue for those with kids in school or can't get off work) or heading somewhere else not so busy (probably no trails). Sulfur Springs Camp, near Colorado Bend State Park looks promising. It's first-come-first-serve and no trails, but does have 3 miles of river front property available for tent camping. Other places with both trails and large sites are available but much farther away, so more than a weekend trip.

Lastly, due to appointments, we won't be able to make any trip until after May 8. The next meet up is May 6, so we can all get together and discuss options then.

We had some good times at Ratcliff in DCNF. There are group campsites on the lake. We usually stayed on the southeast side of the lake with 8+ rigs

If anyone's interested, I'm going to be at the meeting this saturday and will bring some of my unneeded gear. I have a tent/two sleeping bags/two self-inflating mattresses, ac/dc freezer/fridge, smittybilt air compressor, yeti cooler, and lotsa other stuff. Let me know. As I said a while back, I've gotten bored with overlanding so it all has to go.

I'm afraid I will be out of state this weekend and won't be able to make this months meeting but hopefully someone will be able to take advantage of the opportunity and take it off your hands.

I won't be able to make the next meeting but wanted to say that I am open to any of these places as well as the one Tommy mentioned in Ratcliff. I have hiked DCNF and liked it but I also have Sulphur Springs on my list of camping spots recommended to me. Is there a date in mind yet?

Last time we went to Sulphur Springs Camp it had fallen in disrepair and was looking pretty trashy
Barefoot Camp is right there on the Colorado River near SSC and is supposed to be pretty nice

When and where is the meeting this weekend? I would be interested in the group camping depending on what weekend.

No date as of yet. My youngest graduates HS in about 3 weeks, so it will be after that. Still working out details. We (well not you lol) can discuss this Sat.

Thanks to everyone who came out today. Enjoyed talking with y'all.
Since we were all hungry but the time we left, I was thinking maybe we could do a camp kitchen breakfast thing at a meet up sometime. Thoughts?
