Recording your Trip

Right now I use my phone camera and a little Nikon. One day I would love to have a Go Pro and DLSR although my camera skills would not do that camera justice. Whatever you have on hand is the best tool to use at the moment. Just like the rigs, don't let not having the 'it' camera stop you from recording your adventures and all the memories.

I love the perspective a drone gives of your trip. Let it be of camp, tracking your group on the trails or a really great selfie of your friends. Some of these pictures were from the Overland Bound May 2017 Get Together in Ocala. We use a Solo and Mavic on our trips.FB_IMG_1494097767350.jpg 18301728_1705318776149509_2648136547333786897_n.jpg 19025271_1744211058926947_8857480362362768049_o.jpg 18402693_1705318592816194_2921955484178240136_n.jpg 19025337_1744218518926201_4203324374822471178_o.jpg

What do you use to record your trip?

People do alot of photography and videography (even with drones these days)

You can record your trail with vehicle trackers and some GPS's have a trail you can download to then share,
You also have Dash Cams,

what kit do you use when recording your trip?

Just bought this from Amazon because it of my buddies was using one in his Jeep. It was $50! Saved hundreds over the the Go Pro. If it works out I'll have 5 cameras for the price of one Go Pro.

There was a fantastic idea I saw on facebook and shared a while back (which i will be doing when i go away)

If you collect a Postcard from each location on each day and write on it what you did - then send it back to yourself,
You will then have a nice bunch of cards when you return which effectively has recorded your journey - then you can bind the cards together to make a mini trip journal,

I thought that was an amazing idea :)

I guess this also points out its not just about using tech to record your trip
as @GSDforLife mentioned
I have found over the years that looking back at old journal experiences and remembering it as you want to can be even better than photos

I have seen alot of people do the same and have a written diary of the events of the day which they note down at the end of the day whilst its still fresh - makes it easier if you later on want to write a book :)
I really like this idea! Very artsy.

Currently using a Cannon EOS Rebel SL1 and my phone. Would like to get a GoPro, but due to budget concerns, will probably get a clone. I'd also love to get a drone, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

We primarily use a Canon HF G30 video camera. It captures with fantastic accuracy and has the capability to use external microphones. Most people don’t think about audio with their video shots. There are three things that will ruin an otherwise fantastic video shot; audio, audio, and audio. :)
Voiceovers and/ or music can be used to cover up bad sound captured with the camera.
We also use our phone’s camera when there’s a quick shot to get and we don’t have time to get out the big camera. DSLRs have their place too. Gopros and other “action” cams have their place. We use them mostly during wet and dusty conditions.
Use whatever cameras you have but the best piece of equipment is a plan. What shots will you need to get your thoughts and message across to your viewers? We always start out with a well thought out “story board” and list of shots and audio. You’ll find that this makes the editing process much easier and faster.

For GPS I use the Gaia GPS app on my phone. It really does a great job and with the ability to store offline maps it takes me wherever I want to go.
