Head southwest to the Chadwick area of the Mark Twain National Forest. You can also spend a day or night at SMORR (Southwest Missouri Off-Road Ranch).

Was going to say the same thing about SMORR (about 35 miles SE of Springfield); I stayed there last weekend while out for MOORE. Tent sites are $15 a night and if you wanted to hit some of the trails there is an additional fee for that. Nice clean restrooms and wonderful hot showers. They also offer a hot breakfast. You will need to check their web site though; I think they may be closed for the winter; they were open special for MOORE. And I think they are only open on the weekends when they are open.
