Two days ago we drove through Quartzsite AZ . We deeply appreciate and enjoy the southwest deserts and visit/explore/camp in the region long and often. Admittedly, we do have a preference for the 4 corners region and the Colorado plateau and we do have a preference for silence and solitude. I must ask, what is there about Quartzsite that attracts so many people?

From what I understand aside from the favorable weather during the winter months and an area which caters to and makes seasonal RV stays easy and inexpensive to do is that it attracts people who aren’t into silence and solitude. There seems whole micro communities of people that converge there year after year and meet up like extended family and then will go off in their separate directions once the hot weather arrives only to return again next winter to the same spot to meet up with the same acquaintances.

It’s a lot like easterners going down to their favorite shore, same place, same people year after year after year after year. Ironic

its the same as migrating birds, except migrating birds have a better sense of direction and less poop...
that place was crazy packed when we went thru

Quartzsite is a RV haven, but Just south of Quartzsite is Kofa National Wildlife Refuge, some of the most interesting and diverse desert camping we have found.

If your still in the area, I can send you the coordinates of a great camp site in Kofa.

Not there any longer- wiggling our way back to South Carolina, via Grand Staircase, Rafael Swell, and Rt 50 back east. However, I saw this area on our paper maps and had planned on spending some time there.
