Hey everyone,
Looking to go overlanding in march somewhere in WA or ID, is it too early with the snow closing most trails?
Any suggestions where to go to avoid closed roads? I know that there are a ton of snow parks around that close most Forrest service roads.

thanks!

I'm going to say SOUTH.
Up here near you, Post Falls, and farther north near me, sandpoint, the snow is too deep. Maybe @M Rose or @PNW EXPLR might be able to lend an idea in Lagrand or Kenniwick.
Back in 2019 we did a group trip at McCroskey State Park Here is the Rally Point Link. There is a GPX for the area. All the snow was gone at this point, but I think you could get up there earlier that we did.

This year southern Idaho, Central Oregon, are your best bets... snow is down at 1000 feet here... and lots of snow... we just got dumped on for almost 2 maybe 3 weeks straight in Oregon and Washington. Higher elevations aren’t going to be reachable until early summer.

Welcome to the Northwest Group.
Look forward to getting out and meeting our new members as soon as the trails clear.

Yeah, I agree. Most trails will be snowed in. Talked with the group and we are going toward central WA. Somewhere around Columbia river. The elevation there is around 1000-2000 feet, max 3000 feet. So I'm expecting some snow but still drivable.
Thanks for sharing your trip in 2019.

We are still snowed in, but melting off fast. Northern slopes are still going to have snow for quite a while.

I know this is a year old thread, but resurrecting as we trying to get folks out! We did a trip on March 3rd and have a few more coming up. Planning on at least one a month. Check the link in my signature block and look at the 2nd pst for the updated info!
