Overland fishing

I carry some telescopic robs and spare reels but I'm not not really aiming to catch much. Juat something I can do with the kids. If im out solo and I try to bring full size rods but I have had a few too many break along the way and need to come up with some sort of carrying case

The length you are dealing with is the main issue. Travel rods that break down to three or four sections make it easier. Putting reels in separate case for long/multiple days of travel is how I do it. Relatively short trips I may tie the 9 ft. fly rod to the top being careful of limbs, etc. I have a bungee system under my RTT rack that does well for up to 7 ft. rod and reels. Security is an issue but I don't worry much about stepping in a store or restaurant. I have a case that I can put 5-6 rods in. Especially easy if they are two-piece. With me fishing equipment goes first and everything else has to find it's own spot!
My new RTT has some available bars that one could strap rods to on top. Not sure it's worth the extra $250 and climbing up there is problematic also. I have made cases out of 6-8" pvc that works ok. There are hard cases, soft cases, locking holders, etc for many situations online. Your vehicle and type rods will dictate what suits your need.
