Looking for a complete list of what I need for Base Camp, hiking, etc. I'll be in my 2006 LJ Jeep, no cargo rack yet. So room is limited..
Thank you
Alyce.

What you need depends on you. Go out a few times and see what you need or don't need.
Some people like to carry a skottle, have a sink with running water, cook areas with their utensils nicely hung, etc...
And then there are people that are content with a hammock, a chair, some way to keep their food (and/or beer) cold, and some form of heat to cook over.
Figure out what works for you.

Food Storage,
Sleeping Arrangements,
Shelter, from rain and sun.

Refrigeration ?
Bowel Movement management.
Maybe route finding, communications?

Basic knowledge of dangers in your region, ie Bears or Flash Floods or ....

Do a few close to home overnighters and ask questions, develop solutions as you discover needs.

Ya pretty wide open question. Have you camped before? Do you currently have gear and are looking to add or are you starting from total scratch. Huge difference in the answer. And you have a Jeep so weight should be considered.

When I started out 40 odd years a go :

  • a sleeping bag
  • tankers canvas hold all with clothes
  • 2 burner coleman stove
  • Cooler
  • Tarp and air mattress
That was good for 7 to 10 days - lakes for a shower

Now I have a Discovery II with an RTT, Awning and way more of everything and I am not sure I am anymore prepared but my old bones like the comfort.

Tent or Hammok with ground sheet and rain fly.
Something to cook on and eat/drink with
Toiletries and scat shovel
Something to sleep in or on.
Food and lots of water.
IFAK
Basic tools and tire repair with air pump.
A lot of this stuff is pretty individual and depending on your expected level of comfort, can be a short or long list.
