Purchased a lightly used (50k miles) 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara prior to going overseas to West Africa in 2017 for a 4 year work assignment. Mainly b/c it was super cheap compared to other similar 4x4s and so wouldn’t worry about it getting trashed. Also very easy to maintain in Africa with great parts availability. Didn’t have time to do any mods prior to going there, but it has been an amazing little rig for trips to beach, rainforest, etc., performing admirably on some really tough roads and terrain. Whether we ship it back to U.S. or take to another overseas assignment, interested to do some basic overland mods to do some adventuring and have a bit more self-sufficiency on ski/camp trips.

I’m a longtime ski/bike/hike/camp enthusiast, but new to overlanding. Really interested to follow any previous or ongoing builds on Suzukis or similar crossovers/utes to see what’s possible; particularly in how to best use the interior space.

Cheers.
