Hello,
Just bought an 04 4runner, will be installing 32's and a 3 inch lift in the near future. Do I need a drop kit for my transmission and do I need regearing for the 32's. I am new to off roading not towing anything for now. any suggestions?

Thanks,

Congrats on the new rig, the 4runners are great platforms. Many of the answers to your questions are "it depends". 3" seems to be the Bermuda triangle of lift kits. I'm running an Icon system and sit just about at 3" in the taco; I get a small vibration on takeoff. I have been in other Tacos with the same setup, and its smooth as glass. We are going to be regearing the Taco soon to 4.56, I'm currently running 32's, but will be going to 33's next go around and tow a trailer. The truck is not a DD so my focus is on having it trip ready. If you google regearing formula you will find a number of resource that will give you the "ideal" gear ratio to keep the truck in a stock configuration, but they wont tell you if the change is right for you. I would do some MPG tests stock then upgrade your tires. Retest the the MPG and see if it's something you can live with.

Most important, go get some trail pin-striping on it and make some memories in it.

Ronny Dahl has a good video about lifting ifs vehicles on his YouTube channel, it's quite new so it should be easy to find it, eventually I can post a link here...
Maybe this will help at least it's informative
