Hi from the San Francisco Bay Area!
I don't have much of anything yet except a lot of interest...no picture, no rig, and no overland experience.

I have some back packing experience and I've driven my 3500 Dodge on fire roads.
Even before reading any overland forums, I knew the dodge was "a bit" large.

So, which forum is the most appropriate for asking how vehicle size (jeep/tacoma/land cruiser/full size pickup) limits the number of trails available?

Welcome and hello from West Texas! I drive a full size Tundra, I don't have too much trouble going down trails, Just be prepared for pinstripes from brush or whatever.

Rick_A, I believe you are ready to go. Levidale has the right idea, 'be prepared for pinstripes. Safe travels.
 
Thanks for the replies. Do y0u really think a dualie with an 8' bed and quad cab is reasonable on trails? (154"wheel base and 22'long) I know the motto is "..it doesn't matter what you drive", but it's the "...as long is it is safe..." part that I'm not sure of. Seen many dualies on trails?

You would be able to make it to base camp. Sounds like you want to be able to 4 wheel as well. Have you thought about the future wheeling rig yet?
 
I was considering a something manual. Wanted diesel, but don't know how the turbo throttle control would be 4 wheeling. I like the Habitat since you don't need to use a ladder . Its an expensive option, but it beats falling off of a ladder in a remote location. Habitats are made for Jeeps and Tacomas, but I'm leaning toward the Tacoma for the wife's comfort. Any recommendations?
 
Tacoma is a great choice. Lots of options and build styles to go with. Habitat is nice, Alu-Cab has the Ossewa. Between Sacramento and the Bay there are a lot of builds to look at and ask questions. Have you joined the Overland Bound - West Facebook page yet?
