New guy from Denver area

  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

So I just moved to the Denver area. Literally last week. I’m from the Ohio/Kentucky area and love camping and four wheeling. I’ve always been fascinated with overlanding since the turtle expedition and camel trophy days and finally feel like I’m in a good spot financially and location wise to give it a go.

Right now my rigs a 2012 Silverado all stock. Of course I’d love to have a 4 runner or power wagon but I hate payments.

My goal is to mildly build the truck and add a 4 wheel camper or similar and go explore this awesome state.

Welcome from another Colorado Member! You'll be able to go plenty of places in Co and surrounding with that truck stock. Before I got my Tacoma I was all over in a Stock Full size Ford 150 van that we converted to a camping rig.
Grab some good AT tires on your next change out, Watch your breakover angle on the trail depending on your truck's wheelbase, and get out and have some fun.

Check out the https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/day-trips-near-denver.14497/ thread for quick places to go around town.
I'd also recommend that come summer early-mid fall you check out Boreas pass between Como (Old WhistleStop "town" about an 1:30 from Denver up Hwy 285) and Breckenridge. Nice easy pass with some views and history to absorb.

I suggest that you get in touch with Juniper Overland in Arvada. info@juniperoverland.com / 303-431-6611 Talk to Matt. Phone or in person is best. They sell 4wheel Campers and were working on some full size trucks last time I was there. (Ford and RAM so they probably work on Chevy's too) I can't yet personally vouch for their work but one of the guys I met at a meetup had his Dual battery system designed and installed by them and the electrical work was impressive.
