Alright yall, finally have an opinion on this thing. Had for just a short bit, usually run with a pop-up awning, and have come up with a few thoughts. This is the 7x9 awning, comes in a bag the size of a yoga mat, and doesn't remain on the outside of the vehicle. In lieu of an external awning and all the cons that are associated with that, this is a solid middle ground:
-Faster and easier on the setup/takedown than a pop-up or external.
-Takes up a lot less space.
-Not exposed to the sun or trail full time.
-Surprisingly sturdy for what it is.
-Multiple mounting and anchor points for your rig.

Moon fab has the Original (7x9), the XL (9x12) and now have the Pro (9x9 with dedicated walls). Was told about a "hack" to mount quick fist to the side of the roof rack to hold the cross bar. Factory i can only use 1 and then a suction cup anchor but damn is it sturdy. Makes going up and takedown much easier. All in all, highly recommend. More expensive than a pop up, cheaper than a dedicated external awning PLUS if you order 2 extra poles not only can you mount it to the rig, but you can make it fully freestanding like a pop up. 10/10 recomend.

Ok, to expand on what i said yesterday (got some better pictures as well. The roof is attached via quick fist and suction cup (seasucker mount, things are great for everything and can be ordered from moon), the awning is pin through fabric like a tent and is held together with a hook loop carabiner. AND THEY SAY, it packs smaller than a yoga mat. I don't know what that is but here is a regular old camp chair to compare sizes. I said yesterday with 2 extra poles that you can order this thing could be free standing. Well, I'm a masochist so i gave it a whack here by myself. Let's just say guy lines are needed. Put 2 poles and guy one side (needs the tension) and then WITH A PARTNER you should be able to leg and guy the other side. I fought for about 10min by myself and said screw it lol. But it could be done. When I order the other poles ill update this.20250530_084404.jpg20250530_084407.jpg20250530_084416.jpg20250530_085122.jpg20250530_085318.jpg

Digging up bones here but have a bit more knowledge on the moon shade than before. If you are going to be camping on the beach or in sand and the wind is gusting over 40.... make sure this thing is held down well. By the end of the day my spare tire and beer cooler were helping to hold it down lol. At one point the sand stakes i was using to hold the guys out got hit with a rogue boogie board and the whole thing achieved lift. Bent the hell out of the upper poles with all of the twisting and such. BUT, kuddos to moon Fab. They had a replacement set sent out in no time and got me back in business. Their customer support is pretty darn good if I had to say anything. The picture is replacements vs originals AFTER i had stuck them in the reciever hitch to straighten them out. Also recommend screw type anchors (home depot) for soft dirt or sand. These things can generate some lift. Me being me, I put jam cleats on the guys as well to help with tension. Not needed but looks sexy and speed the process up20251020_125413.jpg49b0649a-a62a-43d2-92ff-fe6e18e86744.jpg20251022_104758.jpg
