Pretty exciting news: [***EDIT: This is almost entirely related to four-wheeled non-road-going vehicles... doesn't change much for trucks/bikes... ***]

"The Michigan Department of Natural Resources invites public input on a proposal to open thousands of miles of state forest roads to off-road vehicles in the northern Lower Peninsula. The expanded access takes effect January 2018, as required by Public Act 288 of 2016."

Looks like I will eventually need to put a road trip to Michigan on my calendar. It's one of the states I have never visited.

This is opening already existing roads to ORV use. If you already had a road going vehicle with a license plate, ie. every overlanding vehicle, this is kind of meaningless unless you own a quad or side by side. There is zero new trails for cars and trucks.
