Hello!

My name is Greg. I’m from Danville, IN and I am new to this community. I have a 2020 Jeep Gladiator. I’m excited to explore the forum and see what other midwesterners have done! Looks like Indiana doesn’t have a lot of options unfortunately.

My son (11) and I are excited to explore some OHV Parks in the next couple of weeks though.

Guess I should do my intro before making more posts...

The missus and I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 work truck (fancy word for "base model"), double cab, 6.5" bed, 4x4 (high & low), Canadian truck & we are the 3rd owner. Previous owner used it for hunting and had a bed crane so he could dress the deer. I've been under it and have cleaned out half the Oregon river beds of sand and mud he went thru...or camped in, hard to tell He was the husband of my wife's best friend but he died and since the friend didn't need the truck we bought it.

Me? I won't go into what I do (it ain't anything sexy) but I've been working with computers since the mid-1980s. I've been hobby wrenching on classic VWs for decades and that's not exaggerating. Have a '76 Bus with a new transaxle with a Peloquin LSD...hoping to put a Subaru swap in it ($$$ ). I also have a '72 Squareback and my parents were the original owners. I raced a '95 Mk.III Jetta in SCCA Solo-II, EP class, and I'm very proficient with manual tranny (heel-toe, double-clutching, etc. & overall hooligan stuff ). I finally got my grail tool, a 10k Bendpak asymmetrical 2-post lift.

My speed requirements are satisfied with two Ducatis and an Audi S5 cabrio with APR Stage II goodies.

However, this lifted off-road life is totally NOT where I imagined I'd ever be but here I am & it's pretty fun so far! I've attended the last three Overland Expos for ideas & some minor gear. The Chebby has the Z71 accessory pack so that is front skid "plate" made of plastic and more off-road aligned shock absorbers. I've installed a thick aluminum aftermarket front skid plate, front end level spacers, upgraded the stereo system to keep the missus happy (head unit & speakers...what a difference!) plus the the larger screen makes the reverse camera useful and I can view ODBC-II signals (CEL codes, HVAC settings, outside/intake/tranny/coolant temps, est. fuel range, mph, mpg, etc.), a [removable] bed extender, and an aluminum-slat locking tonneau cover, LED headlights, BoostAuto trailer side mirrors with extra-bright cargo lights (we have a 19' travel trailer), exrta-bright LED reverse and cargo lights, and a switch to turn on all those bright cargo/white lights as needed. I'm not one to keep things stock...

Thought I would start with an introduction.

I’ve been overlanding since the 1980’s, so I’ve been doing this a while. Now that I’m retired, I want to start doing more trips, so thought I would join this forum to gather intel.

My rigs:

First up is my 1947 cj2a jeep that has been heavily modified with frame stretch, coils/long arms, etc. I just finished a trip on the Rubicon Trail in June in the 47, and it’s been to Moab a ton of times. When I take the 47, it means tent camping.

Rig number 2 is my 2024 Gladiator Rubicon. This build is pretty basic, AEV 2.5” spring lift, 37” tires on stock rims, skid plates, Warn winch, Project M pop up, etc. The Gladiator is my preferred rig when overlanding more difficult trails since it’s more comfortable at night, but it’s unlikely it will ever see the Rubicon trail. it’s built well enough for all the fun trails in Moab and all the BDR trails, so plenty of adventures out there for the Gladiator. I’m also planning a TAT trip, but not sure on the timing.

The final rig is a 2020 motorhome. Now, this may seem like an odd overland rig, but it’s been heavily modified with a lift, 42” tires, locker up front, limited slip in the rear, Warn winch and other goodies to help with off-road duties. This is the rig that gets us close to adventures, where the Gladiator or 47 take over.

The next adventure on the list is to hit part of the Montana BDR for the holiday this weekend in the Gladiator.

Hey zusammen


Wir sind Lea (23) und Philipp (27) und kommen aus dem schönen Oberbayern, genauer gesagt aus der Ecke Landsberg am Lech.


Wir sind noch relativ neu in der Overlanding-/Offroad-Welt und freuen uns deshalb umso mehr, hier ein bisschen Anschluss zu finden, Erfahrungen auszutauschen und neue Leute kennenzulernen.


Unterwegs sind wir mit unserem Toyota Land Cruiser J90 3.0 TD von 2002, den wir nach und nach für unsere Touren ausgebaut haben. ️ Geschlafen wird entweder im Dachzelt oder direkt im Land Cruiser – je nachdem, wo wir gerade landen.


Uns zieht es vor allem raus aus dem klassischen Campingplatz-Urlaub. Wir mögen spontane Roadtrips, abgelegene Plätze, Natur, Berge, Meer und Strecken, bei denen auch mal der Asphalt aufhört. Ein festes Ziel brauchen wir dabei nicht unbedingt – für uns gehört gerade das spontane Weiterfahren und Entdecken dazu.


Wir möchten in Zukunft noch deutlich mehr Touren machen, neue Gegenden entdecken, mehr Offroad-Erfahrung sammeln und natürlich auch unseren Land Cruiser Stück für Stück weiter optimieren.


Von der Community erhoffen wir uns vor allem einen entspannten Austausch, Tipps und Erfahrungen rund ums Reisen und Offroaden und vielleicht ergibt sich ja auch mal die eine oder andere gemeinsame Tour.

I am one of the OB Ambassadors in Europe. Please do not hesitate to me for questions regarding Overland Bound, and the App or information regarding overlanding.

Local information for any of the OB regions can also be found in the Overland Bound by region forum. Each region has its own sub-forum. Germany, for example, belong to the region MidEurope. So, this link leads to the MidEurope subforum. Feel free to introduce yourself to your local area here.

Please take a look at the Rally Points for planned events. There you can filter by region. There are plenty of meetups still planned for this year and more to come for next year.

We also do a virtual campfire once a month, there are always members from many regions of Europe. I will schedule the next one soon. This is a relaxed online talk about overlanding, trip plans, gear, everyday life and more with like-minded people. Just join us next time if you like.

By the way, some members will meet at the Adventure Northside in September and a bigger group at the OTTO expo in October, where we will have an OB spot within the camp area. Just check out the Rally Point and if you like to attend just let me know.

I could not agree more, and just to add to that: we recently had a great trip to Sweden with several OB members and a fantastic meetup there, which @Bengt N organized.
