Hi, I'm Tom and I'm in the Los Angeles area, just steps away from the Angeles National Forest. I've got a 2021 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E that I use mainly for work. I don't have to haul around much but a pickup helps a lot. It's comfortable enough that my wife is eager enough for us to take road trips in. I've had the itch to do some lite overlanding in the last year and think this is the perfect vehicle for us to do it in. Hoping to learn a lot from you all!
Welcome to Overland Bound Tom

Hi, all! It’s great to finally be joining the community. I live in Hartford, CT. I’ve done a lot of camping over the years but not overlanding. I’ve wanted to start exploring that way for a while and today I acquired a suitable vehicle - a Ford Ranger Tremor. I’m looking forward to the adventures ahead with my new truck!

New Members,

Welcome to the Overland Bound community! Please take a few moments to introduce yourself so we can get to know you!

A few things you might want to include in your introduction are:

1) Picture! If you have a rig, we want to see it!
2) Location (General area is fine)
3) Rig (Year, Make, Model, etc.)
4) Overlanding Experience Background (Novice or Experienced, you're welcome here!)

We're glad you've found us and look forward to sharing our adventures with you!

In addition to getting to know you, here are the guideline sent to all Moderators of the forums. It's a natural reflection of our community, and what Overland Bound is all about:

From @administrator
  • Overlanding is: "Vehicle Dependent Travel". Nothing else.
  • We will not further define "overlanding".
  • "Capable" depends on the requirements of the trip, and we take that very seriously.
  • You are an Overlander: Overlanding is for everyone who has exploration and adventure in their heart, or, who need to be reinvigorated by connecting with nature. Nature is unforgiving. You must rise to a certain level of personal awareness to survive. Sound right? Overlanding is for you.
  • Encourage uncomplicated ventures into the great outdoors. Don't over pack.
  • Be prepared, and understand basic requirements. Question folks, to be sure they are aware of what is required. Don't assume.
  • Share without reservation, trip locations, and information.
  • It doesn't matter what you drive: The only requirement of an Overlander is that the vehicle serves the job required, safely.
  • We do not care about make or model.
  • We do not engage in "this is better than that" competitions.
  • We DO give advice about how to make your vehicle ready for what you need. Share knowledge.
  • Humility.
  • We respect, fear, and protect nature.
  • "I don't know" is a great answer.
  • We don’t brag about exploits.
  • We seek answers from the community when we don’t know.
  • We engage in the very smallest of interactions.
Hi there. Kevin from Duluth, MN. 2005 LR LR3 and 1969 Bronco.

Welcome, Mike!

I believe I run the same chassis as you with my 02 Avalanche. Two things that help me the most off-road is disconnecting the rear sway bar and loosening the front. Also, I have a switched relay to disconnect the front axle actuator when in low range so that I have 2-LO. It is great for the tight mountain roads.

Look us up if you're ever out this way!

Hi guys,
My name is Patricio, from Santiago, Chile.
My rig is a 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VX (J120), I think in the US this model doesn’t exists but maybe you know it as a Lexus GX470. I have it since 8 months now, and I’m really happy with it.
My last rig was a 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited (RIP) until last year (13 years with me). I had a lot of great experiences with it, but the engine and the crappy 42RLE gear box past away with no mercy.
I hope I can help others with my experience.
Oh, and I finally got my badge today :)

Hello Patricio, welcome to Overland Bound. I hope that your Prado will last longer, and you are correct, we do not have the Prado here.

Hey there Overland Bound Community,

Just joined and am definitely looking forward to learning more about overlanding and enjoying it.

Location: Los Angeles, California
Rig: 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4x4
Experience: Novice in Overlanding, but avid hiker/camper/backpacker

I would upload a picture of my rig, but it's just basic right now. Eagerly waiting for the mods I ordered to arrive.
