Making 12 volt connection always on

Hello. I have an 01 Toyota Sequoia and I’d like to make the cargo area 12 volt connection always on. It currently only is on when the ignition is and I plan to use it for a 12 volt fridge. I would like to add a small solar panel to the roof and it may be better to run the solar thru the rear cargo area into a jackery and just run it that way. It could allow the jackery to be charged via the existing 12 volt when the vehicle is running, solar when it isn’t, and allow for a few additional plugs in the cargo area while being more “plug and play”. Any advice or direction would be appreciated. Thank you.

Disconnect the positive wire at the rear acc. port. Run a fused wire from the battery. Go to Blue Seas website to their chart that will tell you what gauge wire to use for your amperage draw and cable length. This would probably be the easiest way to bypass a ignition switched port. Or just install another port from the batt so one would be switched and the other always on.

I think the Jackery is a safer and great solution to this issue. It can be plugged into your 12v accessory and charge when the vehicle is running, but then it safely isolates your start battery from the risk of drain. Also would keep your start battery much more healthy. A starter battery is just not great for deep discharges.

I changed the start battery in the 4Runner to a deep cycle marine battery and then added a second house battery that charges by the use of a 200 amp solenoid activated by the alternator. Then I went to the fuse box under the dash and unpinned the incoming wire for the auxiliary socket circuit and replaced it with a wire coming off of my auxiliary battery wiring.

Now, we don’t use the rear auxiliary power socket for our fridge, it’s on It’s own dedicated circuit using power poles for quick disconnects.
