Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Anybody familiar with the rack pictured. Looks like a factory accessory and I can't determine from the picture if it's multiple pieces. Present owner isn't sure. I'm thinking of picking it up but I hate to pull a trailer 3hrs if it'll break down and fit in my 4 Runner.
Oh well. Rack purchase didn't happen. Guy sold it out from under me after talking on the phone about it twice. Still on the hunt for one close to Atlanta.
That's a Safety Devices rack (from the factory). The Baja Rack has more uprights under the top bar. The best way to tell if it's an SD rack is by looking at the mounting feet. They have an Allen head bolt going up (vertically) in the center, and two bolts on either side to clamp the outer plate to the rack. This pic is from the time I repainted the rack, hence the bare steel.
Oh, there is a difference between a Discovery 1 and Discovery 2 SD rack. The D2 version is about 6" longer than the D1, and will overhang the rear of a D1.
indeed a D1 is shorter than a D2 as mentioned above by about 6 inch or so,
Most roof racks which were designed for D1 or D2 will work with eachother,
I have a rack which was fitted for a D1 but the roof mounts do extend that little bit to then fit on my D90 - which proves a D90 is about 2 inch wider at the roof gutter than a Discovery
