Low Sulfur Diesel Engine or not?

This is a little generalized I'm afraid. Let's take Botswana for example. Yes, you'll find 50ppm in cities and most towns but if you're traveling to remote areas I've found many times that there is only 500ppm available and/or the 50ppm pumps are empty.

Maybe this map will help. I was told that everything above "green" is ok for dpf diesel engines.

Those who worry about petrol/gas availability should not. That will be the least of your problems. Biggest number of vehicles you will see out there are not cars or diesel trucks, but motorbikes, who run on petrol and much lower range..
What you might consider is the lower mileage/tank for petrol engines if you plan to visit very remote places. In this case you might need to have some jerry cans or go for a Long range fuel tank.
Me personally, I would get some cheap plastic jerry cans when need for specific leg of the trip and discard them after.. Long range tanks are too expensive and add to much weight. They might pay off in time by filing where is cheaper, but you need to do a lot , I mean really a lot a of km....
