I've just been reading an excellent set of photography posts here in Boot Camp, but all the photos are missing, which spoils the flow of the topic.
Instead, where the photos should be, there's a place holder with a X through it:

Presumably, they've been removed somehow, or a link broken, although hovering over the place holder reveals nothing about a link of any sort (i.e. Photobucket or other hosting service provider), so they were possibly uploaded as files?
Is there anything that can be done to recover them?

I'm sure that you've found out somewhere down the line that Photobucket and many other photo storage sites are now imposing new restrictions on photo hosting. I believe at one point whom ever's photos are still there, but photobucket should have sent our a warning email or notification upon login, explaining their new terms which happens to include a new payment system. In other words, these photo storage servers now want you to pay for your accounts.

Yeah, it's a pain, an awful lot of otherwise very helpful posts have images hosted at photobucket, which now don't show. Some of the original posters have returned and reposted the images from other sources, but a lot of those posts have now become rather ineffective, especially if they depended on the images to 'splain stuff. It's another good reason to keep a folder of images on your computer or in your photostream from which you can upload directly to OB.

Good habit to keep, too, is to resize images to 700-900 pixels wide at 72dpi and save at around 75-80%. Plenty good for web use and saves a ton on file-size, load time and bandwidth.
