Let's talk seats

Hi All,

I have a 94 4Runner and its front seats are pretty much done. I had them refirbished once but they are still not great. Now I am thinking of just putting a new seat in but I am having a hard time finding something that fits the budget.

Budget is USD1000. I can fabricate mounts so the seat only has to physically fit.

Problem is, I am just not sure what to get. Recaro and Scheel mann are $3000 CAD plus mounting and shipping, but besides that there seem to be only a flood of cheap and chinese $300 seats.

Are there brands I should be looking for?

I want to avoid seats from wreckers because they are usually not available locally and a specific one would be hard to find.

cheers :)

I bought heated, leather, lumbar support, BMW seats. $75 each. Universal seat mounts, also 50 bucks. Full day install, pulling wire to two switches. Best install, because the LandCruiser seats were $500.00 each, with NO heat, or Lumbar support. DG

My uncle (who was in the aviation business) put two used seats from a light aircraft into a Ford Station Wagon, many years ago.

I've replaced worn out seats in 3 Jeeps (XJ, TJ & LJ) with Hyundai Tiburon seats. In each case I wanted seats that fold forward so ones from a 2 dr. car worked well. You can usually get these at a junk yard for about $40 ea. I put DORMAN seat heater kits into 2 sets and it's a pretty straight forward job. There are plenty of options and they all have the usual features you would expect from a modern-ish vehicle.
