Hi all,
Very proud owner of a pretty standard Series 3.
im in the very early stages of planning a trip from the UK to Morocco, as off road as possible, most likely solo.
The Truck is in desperate need of some TLC now, so as and when finances allow, it will be benifitting from a fairly thorough rebuild.
In preperation for the trip, there will be several "sympathetic" modifications, such as twin fuel-tanks, taken from the military variant, underbody protection such as bolt on diff guards, additoion of a roof rack, jerry can holders ect.
In the main though, I am looking to keep the truck as much a Series Landrover as I can.

Ill keep this thread running over the course of my rebuild and ask questions and advice as things progress, rather than starting any number of independant threads.
So, onto my first question!
Im going to be fabricating some jerry can holders to sil inboard of the wings, Which leaves roughtly 450mm space between them, where i would really like to fit a winch.
I know from seeing others that have done it, that a Capstan winch will fit, however with the price tag attached, I would like to at least explore any other options.

So, can anyone here reccomend a winch that is <450mm wide and preferablly under £400.
I have seen some about but i know nothing of quality/reliability ect.

Thanks,
Tony

Great project.
Well, the capstan winch is a purely mechanical winch, and you say that you want to keep the vehicle as close to the original as possible, right? If you want something cheaper than this mechanical winch, your only options are probably something from the aftermarket or even a standard electric winch like many 4x4 have fitted today. There are certainly a few options in your price range for that which are also reasonably good quality.
Mhh, to put it another way, what do you want to use the winch for?
