Traveler I

Hello all. I have a little experience overlanding - I did the backroad discovery route through Utah with The Smoking Tire and have been off-roading since my first car - a 1985 CJ7. 25 years and a couple early Broncos later I have a 4th gen 4Runner with icon CO's and 32" Duratracs. I'm thinking of renting an off the grid teardrop to pull behind me, maybe an RTT or two. My buddy will drive his basically stock '17 Silverado. 4 high school buddies on the trip. Meeting a 5th up there with a third rig - a 2nd gen Tundra. All 3 are 4wd.

The plan is to leave LA on a Saturday, spend 5 days M-F in the pacific northwest, and return to LA the following Sunday. Fall 2018. Here's the basic idea:

Day 1 - Saturday. Leave LA morning, drive halfway to PNW via the PCH. Camp somewhere.
Day 2 - Day 2 of coastal drive arriving PNW remote camp site with salmon fishing (a river mouth to the ocean I hear is the place to go?) in evening
Day 3 - chill and fish, hike, explore area
Day 4 - chill and fish, hike, explore area
Day 5 - drive to some kind of remote mountainous forest location. Re-stock supplies along the way.
Day 6 - chill in mountains
Day 7 - chill in mountains
Day 8 - begin 2 day drive south through CA eastern sierras. Camp somewhere.
Day 9 - Sunday. Day 2 of scenic drive, arrive LA in evening.
(or reverse the loop and go up the eastern sierras and down the PCH)

We'd love to be off-pavement as much as possible and be as remote as possible when camping. Would love any thoughts/advice! ThanksIMG_3595.jpg IMG_3572.jpg IMG_0130.jpg

I drive to the PNW a lot to visit family, PCH is a slow road the further north you go. Don't rush it. Camping in the Redwoods in CA is great although would add another day to your trip. Many things to see along the way. I just did a run up from Eureka to Portland area in December and visited a few of the lighthouses along the Oregon Coast. Beautiful area I will go back to explore more. ENJOY
