Has anyone had any experience with the Simple Outdoors Skyloft? There price is very attractive.

I never seen an hard shell RTT at the price... I’m interested to know too!
 
I don't have any experience with it but it does look interesting. I watched a youtube video review of it. Seems like a good deal.

I also see see it is out of Boulder which makes it nice for me. I could drive up and have them just put it on my jeep. They could save the shipping cost that way. Unfortunately I am still waiting on my Gobi rack. Will have to wait until that is ready. That gives me time to continue exploring other options. We really like the iKamper SkyKamp but it is really expensive.
 
I have only found one review so far. I realize at that cost there will be some cuts. The mattress is not as thick as the competition, there is no insulation under the hard top so in the rain it could be very noisy.

Unfortunately I live in a Townhome community. I have no garage. And, I already got into trouble for using my driveway as awork area when I spent a few days building my drawer system so DIY is not an option for me.

I totally understand :( I remember getting not so happy letters for changing out the CV shafts on my 4Runner because neighbors were unhappy. I do hope you find something!

How much is it? Looks like the link goes to an FTP site which my employer blocks!
 
If enough people want a cheap Chinese knockoff tent, someone should put a direct buy together. I ran across someone doing so and bought a 270 awning for 115 brand new. As mentioned above, Alibaba is a great resource. The guys selling this tent are most likely doing the exact same thing. You’d all do better to work together and go direct. Just make sure you know that it will take a bit of time to get them. Just my .02

I'd do the home built route. $450 might be a bargain, but $1450 is no bargain.
 
I broke down and went with a Roofnest. I could not get enough solid info on the cheap one to make me feel comfortable.

I went top end with the Falcon which is their low profile aluminum clam shell one. I have used it three weekends now and so far I am very happy. Takes all of 45 seconds to set up (30 seconds if i wasn't so slow in crawling up on my tail gate to open it) and 2 minutes to close it when done. I am glad I went this way. It is mounted on the top of my 2006 Land Rover LR3 and it has caused me to lose about only 1.5 MPG's which is great. Weighs in at about 135lbs which is not bad.
 
I'm wrapping up 4 years with my Smittybilt tent. It has been great. I spent as little as I could to start off with because I wasn't certain just how often I'd be able to get out and take advantage of it, but I've averaged about 3 weeks a year living out of my rig, riding trails and exploring the mountains. I've been looking hard at the Roofnest Eagle. I have my load-out precisely where I want it, but I'd really like to shorten my setup time a bit. It's not hard or slow to pack up my current tent, it's just a pain in the ass.
