That's pretty sweet....most have no idea what that rate is or what we do. I served from 91-96. Souda Bay Crete, Greece was my first tour. Spent 3 months in Sigonella Siciliy putting a million tons of underwater mines back into maintenance cycles and into magazines. Spent the rest of the time in Seal Beach at the NWS. Worked with EOD out of Pt Magu and San Diego.
Man, You were doing some real stuff back in those days. in todays MN rate, they kinda just throw you guys into any department and doing just about any job on the ship whether its deck or combat systems, etc. i feel bad for them cus most of them want to do MN stuff but todays Navy, they’re replacing the minesweepers with these new LCS ships, so they cant really do any real MN stuff.

Sad days now....I was stationed on land. Seperate, isolated commands and only went on ships TAD to build weapons for squadron and ship readiness tests. I worked recovery with EOD to recover the weapons. Used specially trained sea lion trained there in San Diego. Had a blast. Lots of great memories.

I’m stoked to be a part of this community. I’ve always loved nature since I was a kid in the Philippines.
This is what started it all for me, my 85 Westy.

Long story short, we had to part ways and got something a little more reliable; 2018 Toyota Tacoma 4x4

Sad you had to part ways with the Westy.
Yea I love that thing to death, but owning a westy is also a curse, they had a lot of problems and cost a lot of money to keep spending on parts just to keep up with the maintenance. It came to the point where I had no choice but to do an engine swap. So I just had to let her go

I have to agree. You’ll never stop throwing money at them. Build a motor for my ‘74 westy last year, then built a 1.9L for a ‘83 westy a few months ago. Still had to send it off to a specialist. You did pick a nice upgrade!

That’s awesome! I would’ve love to build my engine or fix it myself, I just don’t have the time and the tools for it. I also had a 1.9L on my 85, I almost upgraded it to a 2.1L

Thanks, yea I’m loving my taco. I had to let my westy go because I also didn’t want to keep from overlanding. I was sick not being able to go camp out since the van was sitting in the driveway. I just had to do something about it. And this was the best way
