Hello to all!
My name is Stuart and I’ve been into overlanding for about 2yrs now. I am still learning and by no means am I an expert of any sort in the matter. I started on forest service roads in southern New Mexico (Alamogordo) with my 1984 Toyota Van, 2wd, 5spd manual, and the smallest BFG KO’s (14’s), and a sense of adventure. I started working on converting the Van into a small camper for me and the ole lady to explore around on the weekends. Fast forward a year or so and our needs for overlanding outgrew the Toyota Van.
I knew I wanted to stick with the Toyota brand as it has always been good to me. I knew it had to fit 4 car seats and two adults comfortably, and be powerful enough to move out of its own way and take us anywhere we want. So, the LC100 was the best fit for my budget and family needs. However, finding a landcruiser 100 that someone wants to get rid of in New Mexico was seeming to be impossible. I ended up picking up the Lexus equivalent the 2002 LX470 aka the “yuppy yacht” with 160k on the clock.
The first thing I did was toss on a new set of BFG KO2’s (33”). With just that I felt invincible against the Forrest service roads in New Mexico. I ended up moving back to Florida and reconnecting with an old friend who had picked up a 2016 4Runner trail. Obviously being in Florida overlanding and trail riding seemed to be that much harder. We go to Ocala national Forrest when we can and unleash the Toyota’ potential when we are able too. We ended up setting up a trip to go to the Overland Expo East 2017.
What an eye opener that was! Met a lot of amazing people and saw and tested a lot of really cool gadgets and items. We decided to make plans for a bunch of different good Overland trails in the future as time off work and money allows as well as making it to overland Expo west in the near future!
Anyway, thanks for having me on here and I look forward to seeing some of you on the trails some day!!
