Grand Canyon will be my first overland trip

  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

Planning on going to the Grand Canyon for my first overlanding trip; July 1-10. I’m leaving from Monterey Bay and will be traveling with my gf and she’ll be taking plenty of pictures.
We are compiling a list of MUST-SEE spots and I’m the one in charge of making sure we have the proper permits, fuel spots, and actual route planning. There’s a lot of info to sift through, but it’s more manageable thanks to all of you!

Thinking of traveling South Rim to North Rim. Most important things on my mind are fuel, truck maintenance, proper permits, making the route, and food/water refrigeration.
Any advice on those subjects or other points of interest along the way?

Kaibab National Forest is a great spot. You can get a site right next to the Norrh rim if you go early enough. Bring either a chainsaw or handsaw as down trees are common.

No major obstacles and it’s pretty much a fire road.
