So I go to back up my 1997 Landcruiser (Park brake was not engaged), gave it a little gas and the thing let's out the loudest most cringeworthy screech I've ever heard. Very loud. Could not tell where the noise came from but sounded like front axle.

Could be a worn U-joint, I would lube and inspect everything and see if the symptom changes. Good luck!

If it didn't start til you gassed it, it **probably** wasn't the transmission. I wouldn't think the U-joints or anything would make a difference in Forward or Reverse.

Stuck brake caliper? How long did it last? Did it go anyway on its own, or did you do something that made it go away?
