Fender Bars

I'm in the process of building my truck and I'm now looking at my front bumper. I plan on mounting a winch to the bumper/grille guard like this as I has a nearly identical truck.

But while I'm at it I'd like to build some fender bars like these for just a little added tree and animal protection.

Is there any general rule as to how close or far away from the fender the bar should be? I plan on making them removable for servicing or fender replacement. Anyone have them on there truck already and could send me some measurements of the bar to fender gap?

I think a lot of it will depend on the material used (wall thickness) and how it's mounted. It's going to deflect more at the bend so take that into consideration.

The bumper will move and twist with the frame so most companies will leave about 7/8" to 1 & 1/2" space so the bar does not hit the fender.

Funny, my original estimate was an inch. Not sure what I'm going to use for material yet. But out of common sense it'll probably be DOM tubing.
