I know that many people here use PMR446 radios for communication . There has been an important change in this regard. The German Federal Network Agency has revised and clarified the regulations in its Official Journal 21/2025.

As of November 2025, only handheld radios are permitted as PMR446 devices in Germany. In Official Journal 21/2025, the Federal Network Agency explains that the PMR446 category covers portable devices carried by a person or operated manually, and does not include operation as a base station or repeater, which only use built-in antennas to achieve the best possible shared use and minimize radio interference. PMR446 devices may only be operated in peer-to-peer mode with a short range and may not be used as part of an infrastructure network or as a repeater.

I have updated the OB Boot Camp article on radio communications in Europe accordingly:

OB Approved - Overlanding Radio Comms (Europe) | OVERLAND BOUND COMMUNITY
