I’ve been wanting a clean smooth surface on my tailgate. There is a company that makes these for Toyotas, but nothing I could find for an older F-150.

Phase 1 was to remove the easy up handle and plastic cover to see if this project was even possible.

I found a place online that would custom cut starboard. I was close to pulling the trigger on a custom size cutting board when I found the Starboard advertised for outside. I’m assuming that means it will have less expansion and contraction with temperature.

Phase 2 was to create a template out of cardboard so I would know where to drill my holes. I’m never perfect at this step and some of my holes had to be wallowed out. I ended up switching from machine threads to sheet metal screws.

Nice work.
