Not exactly your first thought for a new rig, but things are not as gnarly here in the UK.

Has anyone had experience setting these up for overland use?

Those look nice. How long has the company been around?
For what's offered the price point is very good. Too bad their not available out here.
I'm sure its not too diffrent then setting up a Subaru.

There part or Renault, the concept is a ‘basic’ vehicle which in theory needs minimal maintenance being sold across Europe and Northern Africa.
I see a solid, but cheap (£23k) base to develop - a bit of a sleeper

It made the top 10 best off road SUV's in Europe. It is actually pretty good off road, the only issue can be the payload.
There are lift kits, bash plates, you name it..
