Coyote flats info needed

Hi does anyone here have experience wheeling and camping at coyote flats by bishop CA. I want to go this summer I’m looking for best time of year to go weather wise and where the trail starts and what the best camp areas are any info helps thank you

Funny you posted , I was talking to some friends about going there this summer also and we were looking for the same info so I would appreciate this info as well!

Haven't been to Coyote Flats but other stuff in the area. I do have a trip planned up that way in the next few weeks

Elevation is 9000ft+ so weather can be very cold and windy at any time of the year, see what Bishop/Big pine is doing them subtract 10-20f off that, if it's windy lower in the valley it will be even stronger up on the hill. Storms are still possible in the summer but less likely than winter.

MVUM Map for the Bishop/Big Pine area, you can take forest road 32e303 from the bottom right of the map or 07s10 is the more used route. Then just explore the track till you find something you like. Stick to the MVUM tracks only, we don't need more areas taken away from us from people not sticking to the designated tracks. Plenty of vids on Youtube to show the difficulty of the tracks, like this one from 2 weeks ago,


Fire ban for the whole Inyo National forest(and almost all NF in California) is in effect, unless a steel ring is provided in developed campground. Fire permit is needed for use of fuel stoves. Get the permit here, Campfire Permit – Ready for Wildfire

Thank you for the info I have camped at lake Sabrina a few years ago but just at the actual camp site there never been off road in the area it’s awesome around there can’t wait to get up there

Got back last night. Camped up buttermilk rd. somewhere the first day then Coyote Flats the 2nd day. Very beautiful I definitely will go again. It was very very cold and windy. I would suggest waiting till it warms up a bit so you can enjoy everything. Also we went to the Reward Mine, that was very cool. You Tube the Reward Mine. A caravan of us drove into it, and it is not far from the highway. Hope that helps. -Craig

recently returned from coyote flats / funnel lake did half the trail up Thursday late afternoon set up on a off shoot and preceded to have 3 other groups scout out the same off shoot. finished up to the lake Friday morning one group already there and one group leaving. set up camp little above the lake and hunkered down Friday afternoon / night wind blew like crazy and temps dropped to low 40's at least. woke up saturday am to see 28 rigs around the lake and lake basin some within arms length of the lake. looked like the overland expo parking lot. decided to head out saturday again passing multiple groups on the way down. the flats and lake are beautiful but have no desire to return the popularity has definitely cut into the peace and quite
