i have been wanting to put a communication radio in my bakkie for some time now. There are so many to choose from that i have no idee. Any inputs? Do you have something installed in your rig?

Sadly I haven't. I've been doing research on VHF vs UHF. But i still don't know. Or is a unlicensed CB radio better or GMRS?

I want to be able to communicate when hitting the track, aswell as recieve info on emergency channels.

On both our trips to Southern Africa we used mobile HAM radios. We used handheld Baofung (sp?) most of the time but went to more powerful Kenwood Mobile units in the deserts of Namibia..

Sorry, completely missed this post! Di you come right?

I'd suggest a VHF to start off with (on the ICASA, ORRA or SA 4X4 community forum frequencies, I use the SA 4x4 community forum freq);
Portable; Bosvark (VHF) Radio - Vratvark Online Shop
For your bakkie; MINI Mobile Radio (VHF) - Vratvark Online Shop
