Just returned home from a trip to Colorado with my 2 older kids (7 and 6). Came over Madano pass into sand dunes np. Camped at the falls above the park that night. Left and went up through Creede following the Rio Grande. Camped near the Hermit lakes. Went up and over Carson rd, holy crap that was steep, to 13,086’ and down past the Carson ghost town. Then up and over cinnamon pass to animas forks. That was a long day. Camped at mineral creek camp ground. Up the next morning over Ophir pass. To telluride. Camped at Alta lake that night, beautiful spot. Next morning to Black Canyon NP, very underrated. Then east and up north through Leadville. Had dinner in Frisco then pushed on to Hot Sulphur Springs for a late night camp spot in a town park (not pretty but free and easy). Got up early and went to Grand Lake, probably my favorite Colorado town. Spent the rest of the day in Rocky Mountain NP.
