I leave home for a couple of days a week so short trips and occasionally two to three weeks I have down. For trips up to two months I started thinking of things like emptying the fridge and freezer, cutting off the water, feeding the cat (JK no cat), holding the mail. What about motors and batteries? Try to run and charge everything as best you can? Summer/Winter can make a difference with power on/off. There is a lot of new technology that allows one to monitor remote camera, etc. with the phone (if you have a signal). I like my linked thermostat. I'm in the planning process and wonder if anyone has a checklist for all the little thing to be considered for extended trips.

Mostly I leave a key with a trusted neighbour, for the house and mail. Beyond locking up and turning down the heat, or air, all I do is turn off the water at the meter. and leave one light on near the middle of the house.
