I love my old Ozark Trail family size tent, but after 20 years the rain fly shows signs of breaking down. I see cracks all over and assume it’s gonna leak bad the next rainy trip we make. We dodged a bullet last night as a massive storm was bearing down on us but it split and went around us. In a hurry I put my Roadhouse tarp over it but that doesn’t fully cover the tent so isn’t a long term solution. Is there waterproofing I can apply that will effectively make my rain fly waterproof again?

Yes. I have used Gear Aid “Tent Sure tent floor sealant”. It’s a brush on urethane sealer liquid. If the old coating is flaking you need to get the loose bits off first. If it’s just old and getting that weird sticky and funny smelling feel this stuff just paints right over it.
