As I am looking at the map for the Ozarks, I see these large open fields in areas of the dense tree forest of the Ozarks. I can clearly see that there are roads that go to these fields, most certainly to get in equipment for mowing, and wondering if I am able to use these same roads to get to these fields and camp. Does anyone know if this is OK? Supposedly, you can camp anywhere in the National forest but there does seem to be some restrictions to this. I am sure of you are hiking you can put down a tent anywhere you like but if you are in a motorized vehicle, that changes things.

My concern is that it's so close to HWY 7, if you come off HWY 7 South onto Gunter that field is less than 2.5 miles in. You might run into a lot of passersby. I tried looking better on an official map but I have never been to the area so I couldn't find much of use. I would call the Ranger Station and just ask, I've had good luck calling before and they know everything there is about the area. Just mention the multiple clearings on Gunter Trail off HWY 7.

Last time a had a similar question about passing into private land to access park property and they were very helpful and knowledgeable about what I had to do.

All good points. I will call them on Monday. According to OnX, this IS NOT private property but part of the PINEY CREEKS WMA in the Ozarks.
