It seems to be handling the weight ok

We went with the Maximus-3 carrier that bolts on in addition to the factory hinges such that the factory gate does not carry any of the weight of the tire carrier but they still open together with the factory latch. Currently have a 35" tire, 4 max trax, 5 gallon NATO can and a trash bag that we carry fire wood or other misc. junk in. No issues so far

What are you using as reinforcement for your tailgate? We have the Mopar one
Just the standard tailgate and hinges
Rear tyre is a 33” and no issues in the last 3 years
