Campsite availability on the Kiabab Plateau and along trails near Hurricane Utah

  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

I will be exploring the area around the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and Trails near Hurricane, Utah around June 15 -20. I have never been out there and was wondering how crowded it will be? I am traveling from South Carolina and was also trying to figure out places to stay near I-20 along the way, does anyone have any suggestions?

Most of that area is either national forest, national monument or BLM managed. Camp where want. Just be mindful of the environment.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. I am a retired Game Warden, so the last thing I want to do is go out there and do something wrong.

I trekked out to Arkansas a while back and stopped at a sweet little FS campground just off I-22 in Holly Springs NF in Mississippi. A perfect days drive westward. Arkansas Ozarks has some amazing camping as well. That may be too far north for your plans. Let me know and I can get you the locations. I promise it is worth it if you want to go that route. I went backroads from Holly Springs and crossed the Big Muddy at Helena to the Ozarks. Lovely drive and no traffic. Beats the interstate if you are not rushed. The northern route doesn't look like that much of a difference on google maps?

I am going to be a little tight on time this trip but, maybe next one. I have been looking at the Ozarks and would like to visit them.
