We are heading out west for a trip and will be spending a few days in Sedona riding our mountain bikes. What are some good remote camp locations? Would prefer to be off the beaten path, but will only be in a stock Silverado so I can't do any real narly trails. Any help would be appreciated!

Free camping near Sedona is a challenge. I've seen people who look like they may be sleeping in their cars at the trail heads further out but the place is pretty well signed as a no camping zone. You have to get all the way to the top of Schnebly Hill Road (sp?) which is pretty high (cold) before camping is allowed. Going west you just gotta keep going too far to make it worth while. Quite franky not having any decent camping near by is the number one reason I've only been there a few times despite it being only about 5 hours away.

We like camping down near Bumblebee and riding the BCT this time of year but that's a pretty good distance from Sedona (an hour or so). And Sedona is actually relatively high (~4000 ft-ish) and may not be all that warm this time of year. I spent a holiday break in Sedona staying at a time share a few years back and I don't think the high got out of the 30's all week long. Climbed up to do the Hangover trail but the backside of the slickrock was a giant sheet of ice and I really didn't want to go sliding off that thing as it's a long long way down befor you hit something flatish again. But then next week's looking to be pretty warm here in central NM so perhaps your timing will be spot on.

You didn't say when you are going. Schnebly Hill Road is the best bet but I think there are camping restrictions after December 15 into March. If you are looking to go in the next month or two you might want to look into one of the forest service campgrounds in Walnut Canyon.
