This device is set up to either be permanently plugged in without draining the battery or... not. It will read all codes for the engine, transmission, ABS system, airbags, etc. It will perform an emissions test for you before your annual vehicle inspection. It will clear codes. It will even tell you what conditions caused codes to be thrown. It will also enable you to pull up different sensors to see how they are behaving in real time for troubleshooting. You can scan your vehicles VIN number and see all mfr recalls for it as well as read up on all TSB for your particular vehicle!

The app for your iOS or Android device is free... and No monthly fees. Free software updates many times per year as well.

Finally... with all of the crazy sensors that are on today's vehicles the aftermarket has caught up with an affordable alternative.

The price for all of this usefulness is only $99 and provides more function than tools many times the price. Anyone with some experience with it please chime in! I am about to buy it and have zero experience with it just yet.

I bought somethin similar when my truck started throwing codes and the dealership couldn't figure out what was going on. They work great although depending on yor vehicles manufacturer there may be some sensors it cant read, i cant read my egt or dpf sensors. edit it does read my dpf pressure i use the torque app.

Torque pro app does the same.

I bought a bluetooth OBDII dongle and it stays plugged in all the time. On the FJ the port is in a place that doesn't expose the OBDII to my legs. I've put it on a few other vehicles to help out with diagnostics and clearing codes and some have their ports in a spot that would prohibit the ability to have it there all the time.

I'm pretty sure the OBDII dongle was around $40.... don't get sucked into buying the real cheap ones for $10..... I got one and it worked for 2 minutes.... then had to buy the more expensive one from a more reputable company.
Sorry I don't have the details on where I got it from (5 yrs ago)... I think it was an "ELM327" though.

There are quite a bit of these devices on Amazon. With so many choices I picked up this WiFi version. Does basically the same and works with my OBD Fusion app on my iPhone. I don't leave it in all the time, only when I need it.

I currently use Torque Pro and was wondering if anyone that had a 5th Gen 4Runner has used the BlueDriver.

I am tired of relying solely on Android

I don't recall which Gen 4Runner is in that last vid I put into the first post. But it is a 4Runner. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Thanks everyone for the input!

I will read up on those other recommended OBDII readers before making the purchase.

Something like one of these readers will absolutely pay for themselves many times over assuming that they last. Especially when on the road. I usually just rely on purchasing a mass-produced vehicle... and then when a problem arises… I have always been lucky that it is a common/cheap fix with sensors. I just visit dedicated forums and figure out an educated guess... which usually ends up being right. With something like this I will KNOW which sensor it is. I usually keep my vehicles way past the 200k mile mark though. My current rig is so awesome I want to keep it forever. lol

Kevin has a 5th Gen 4Runner as well but has only done an unboxing and not an actual review on the BlueDriver.

I have thought about the OBDLink MX+ but that this is a bit pricey!
