OB'ers...

I'm heading to BIg Bear to ski 3/3- 3/6....I see road closures but blue skies on all the live cams. I'm coming from the north, San Luis Obispo. I'm in a Tundra Rock Warrior with new 295 snow tires. I have chains, even. Do you have any advice on the roads or even a recommendation on how to head up?

Hey Rob, check with CHP/Caltrans. They are currently escorting residents only and on a limited bases on the 18 with 330 and 38 closed. This is our house with 6’ of snow and no plowed roads.

I wonder how much progress they can make today and tomorrow clearing roads. Sounds like it may be a game time decision!
I know those are busy routes and they want them open. I’ll check the proper sites, but…What does your gut say?

It has been a long time!! Sorry to say my gut and the neighbors say no way. Not expected to be open for a while. Keep checking, I’m sure the resorts and businesses want to open due to being closed for a week.
 
Thanks! We’re eyeing a hotel down the road closer and may just see if we can get 2 days in instead of 3. That depends on the clearing progress. Thanks a ton. I’ll be in touch!

Cancelled and rescheduled the whole darn thing to the end of the month. Don’t let them haul all that snow away, I’m going to need some!

Good call!! I’m sure there will be plenty of snow for a while. I just learned that only residents with verifiable addresses (drivers license or an utility bill) are being escorted. Glad I could help.
